Sometimes inspiration and the excitement of an art from returns during times of a creative block. I find that when I put pressure on myself to perform or deliver a new and exciting direction in my work the pressure gets to me and nothing good comes out. But art practice is exactly that, practice. And in moments where inspiration is elusive I must remind myself to push through to find some kernel of an idea see what lies on the other side of that block. In the summer of 2019 I found myself in Moisson, France on the river Seine during a new moon. I set out to photograph the stars and possibly the milky way but the light pollution was too much to reveal th darkest reaches of space. Frustrated, I pushed on and during one of my long 30 plus second exposures I simply moved the camera to another scene and what was revealed on the LCD was the spark I needed to move continue. The movement, color and ghostly impressions of the night reminded me of the artists like Monet who spent the latter part of his life on this very river in a boat with an easel and paints capturing the changing light and shadow happening right before his eyes. These photographs are my impressions of this landscape.
